The program is designed to educate bystanders and rescuers in some of the pathogenic exposure risks inherent in first aid contact. The course includes a discussion of the epidemiology and symptoms of bloodborne diseases, an explanation of the modes of transmission, the recognition of tasks that may involve exposure, an explanation of Universal Precautions, Work Practice Controls, Engineering Controls, Administrative Controls, and the use of Personal Protective Equipment.
The course will also discuss the employer's responsibilities, including the availability of an Exposure Control Plan, and employee accessibility to the Hepatitis B vaccine.
